Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Schedule: Shift 7/7 – 12-hour days

Position Reports To: Assay Lab Supervisor

Position Overview

In the capacity of Fire Assay Lab Technician, this position is situated within the onsite laboratory. The objective is to ensure the provision of timely and precise analytical services that are integral to the seamless operation of the Rainy River Gold Mine.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for fluxing, fusion, and cupellation of samples, following New Gold SOPs.

Ensure that proper QA/QC steps are followed and maintained

Accurate data entry and set up of batch runs using LIMS

Ensure availability of fire assay supplies including reagents, crucibles and cupels

Keep a logbook for all routine equipment maintenance and daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping schedules

Collaborate with crew members and supervisor to ensure tasks are completed safely, timely and efficiently

Assist in sample preparation (involves crushing and pulverizing) and general laboratory tasks

Execute procedures and systems to achieve results within given timeframes according to the laboratory Service Agreement

Provide support to the team to meet OHSE site standards - Ensuring all lab work areas are SAFE and if there are any problems to get them addressed in a timely fashion.

Setting up analytical batches

Inventory checks - checking stock levels are up to date, daily & weekly checks. Ordering lab supplies, finding suppliers, sending away for quotes etc. Work with warehouse personnel to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.

Daily, weekly logbooks are being filled out

Housekeeping within the lab area is to the required standard.

Qualifications

Previous assay laboratory/ sample preparation experience is strongly recommended
Desire to learn
Problem-solving skills
Extensive knowledge of operating procedures
Good math abilities – to work with numbers
General use of MS Word, Excel, Access, SAP, LIMS - desirable
First aid certificate – desirable
Certificate in laboratory skills – desirable
Valid drivers’ license – essential
Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
Positive attitude and commitment to safety
Good initiative and judgement
Communicates effectively
